The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, PhD has expressed his deep gratitude to the workers of the Abia State University Teaching Hospital Aba for suspending the strike action that had paralyzed activities in the hospital for sometime now.
The suspension of the strike followed a tripartite agreement reached between the Abia State Government, the Management of the Hospital and organized labor in the Hospital. Workers are expected to return to their duty posts from today, 3rd July, 2019.
The Governor assures the workers that having personally taken the lead in the talks that led to the suspension of the strike, he will also ensure that issues raised during the talks are given the required attention through the new Management of the Hospital which was put in place few weeks ago.
The new Management of the Hospital, Ikpeazu stressed, must rise to the challenge of ensuring that uninterrupted activities take place in the Institution henceforth and challenged them to fashion out creative ways of eliminating the incidence of industrial actions in the Hospital by promoting the ideals of accountability and transparency in the management of the finances of the Hospital.
Governor Ikpeazu who, restated the commitment of his administration to the provision of standard Medicare to the people of Abia State and providing medical workers a conducive environment for their work, challenged the workers to redouble their efforts and ensure that lost grounds are covered as quickly as possible.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to rebuilding the major road leading to the Hospital, a commitment which has started bearing fruits with the key palliative work already done on the road, which will herald the main reconstruction work that is expected to commence shortly.
