THE FORD FOUNDATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF ABA
by Ubani Newman Ubani
A good product certainly does not require much advertisement; The transparent and results centred administration of Governor Ikpeazu has been attracting partners from far and near, typical to the biblical King Solomon whose exceptional wisdom and leadership style echoed across the length and breadth of the earth during his reign, giving him so much goodwill, applause and merited popularity.
Recently, the efforts of the Abia State Governor in entrepreneurial sector received a boost. This happened as the Ford Foundation, a leading development oriented NGO announced its interest in assisting people and residents of Abia State in developing their ideas and dreams to a level they would be able to contribute in the economy growth of the State.
Ford Foundation has pre-requisite for qualification in taking part in the programme they called “Hackathon”. According to the organization, the requirements are that the idea’s prospective beneficiary should possess, must have economic impact on businesses based in Aba. The ideas should be focused on one or all 3 focus areas, including: Leather, fashion/garment and Fabrication. Also, such idea must be executable in Aba which means participants must be ready to relocate to the region. Finally, such intending participant should ensure his idea is well thought through, giving details on the product, insights and strategy that will make the idea a success in Aba.
The programme is ongoing and Ford Foundation requests anyone with a good idea that will bring more development to Aba to register for sponsorship.
Anyone with such HOT IDEA and needs sponsorship is advised to login and register in https://www.proudlymadeinaba.com/hackathon
This of course is a good development, especially as the Governor of the State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has within this two years and few months in office changed the narrative of Aba business men and artisans. His entrepreneurial prowesses has made Aba, the Micro Small and Medium Scale Enterprise capital of Nigeria.
Also, the Governor’s championing of Made in Aba products even beyond the African sub region has re-awaken the ‘can do’ spirit of the Aba man.
Therefore, those who have deep developmental ideas about Aba, especially in those aforementioned areas are expected to identify with the Ford Foundation initiative. Certainly, they would rejoice at the end of the day, as there is assurance of their success as those potentials in them would be harnessed through the Ford Foundation “Hackathon” initiative.
