It is common knowledge that success and uncommon achievements attract accolades from men and women of goodwill as well as people from all walks of life.
The recent recognition of achievements of my boss and big brother, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, the Governor of Abia State by the Vanguard Newspapers in a memorable occasion held at Eko hotels in Lagos gives me joy. It makes me become more proud of this great ‘silent’ achiever. I am particularly happy that a reputable newspaper organization such as Vanguard Newspapers could identify Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s numerous projects and decide to celebrate him in grand style by crowning him the 2017 Vanguard Governor of the Year Award.
Upon the inception of his administration, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu kicked off with what is popularly known as ‘CATERPILLAR REVOLUTION’. With this revolution,
many roads have been constructed and others reconstructed. More interestingly is the construction of Faulks road in Aba, a road that defied all previous efforts to fix it. Now, the popular Ukwumango has been fixed and it has survived a rainy season, without flood pushing people away. Also, Aba road in Umuahia has received solution. Not only that, the first ever flyover interchange in the State, at Osisioma-Aba is ongoing. Of course, construction of Ndioji-Ndiokere-Arochukwu bridge, Nneato bridge and Okonu-Ohafia bridge. In order to ensure that government presence is felt in the nooks and crannies of Abia State, the Governor introduced ‘One Ward, One Project Initiative’ aimed at carrying out at least one project in every political ward is on. By this programme, no part of the State would miss out in infrastructural development.
Apart from road infrastructure, Governor Ikpeazu has delivered on his promises in line with other pillars of developments he encapsulated for himself. The State Governor has delivered in Trade & Commerce, Agriculture, Oil & Gas Education, Health, Environment, Security, SMEs among others.
Little wonder the Governor has been received myriads of awards in appreciating his giant strides. So far, churches like, Presbyterian Church, Assemblies of God (of different branches), St. Anthony & Jude Catholic Church among other churches have given awards to the Governor.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has also been appreciated and endorsed as sole candidate for many groups, clans, Local Government Areas, political blocs as well as organizations. He has equally received Ukwa/Ngwa Outstanding performance award, FRSC Award of Excellence, and others like Verbatim Magazine Governor of the Year Award, Authority Newspaper Excellent Leadership Award which are in the offing are all in recognition of his modest achievement in the various segments of the State economy.
However, the latest of the awards now is the 2017 Vanguard Governor of the Year Award. One thing about this award is that its not an award from organization in Abia State, where people may say it is politically motivated.
I am proud to identify with this great transformer of our time, meticulous and silent achiever, who is so determined to change the narrative of the State for better.
Inspite of elongated legal battles that supposed to have distracted him, my boss, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, Ph.D refused to be distracted and proved to critiques that he is focused in delivering his electioneering promises .
Having handed Abia State to a good caretaker in the person of Dr. Ikpeazu, till 2023, I would want to plead with Abia people and residents to sustain their support to him, he would not disappoint his good people of Abia State.
My boss and big brother, my able, amiable and dynamic Governor of Abia State, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, Ph.D, keep it up!
You are a man of covenant.
