Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has assured that the State government has resolved to promote accountability among public officers because the principle of transparency will encourage sustainable development in Abia.
Ikpeazu made this assurance on Monday 17th July, 2017, while receiving 10 Toyota Hilux vans and 3 Toyota Hiace buses donated by World Bank in Umuahia.
He said, “I urge every officer to be amenable to the change the State government desires to achieve in every facet of the State.
“When you get the endorsement of international agencies like World Bank; the ultimate goal is to oil the wheel of governance and place Abia on a pedestal,”
Ikpeazu said that Abia State government would not permit the misuse of the vehicles it had gotten from World Bank, by ensuring that the aim for providing them would be achieved.
The Head of the project team, Mr. Chukwuemeka Agu, in his remark, said that the vehicles were donated for the implementation of Public Sector Governance Reform and Development Project(PSGRD) in Abia.
Agu said that the project was a World Bank assisted programme which was expected to run for six years.
He added that the team would utilized the opportunities provided by the programme for the advancement of Abia.
This occasion marked the readmission of Abia State into the World Bank project after a long interruption.
