The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu says his administration will deploy all the security apparatus available in the State to ensure that the challenges of insecurity is tackled in Abia State.
The Governor said he will take immediate action to ensure the welfare and security of not only farmers in Umunneochi but all the farmers in the State.
Ikpeazu spoke through his Special Adviser on General Duties, Chief Erondu Uchenna Erondu at Nkwoagu Isuochi, headquarters of Umunneochi local government at the first ever security summit called by the Transition Committee Chairman, Barr. Eze Chikamnayo to address the challenges of insecurity bedevilling the LGA for a long time now.
He praised the efforts of the Council Chairman, Chief Eze Chikamnayo for his giant strides in infrastructure development and security of the Council within a short time as the TC Chairman of the LGA. He used the occasion to reiterate that agriculture and food sufficiency remain cardinal pillars of his administration.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Homeland Security, Prince Dan Okoli, an indigene of Umunneochi himself, informed that Security Agencies in the state are aware of the situation in the LGA and that plans are being put in place to arrest the situation.
According to the Commissioner, ‘’We can’t readily divulge the security strategies being put together at the moment but that the public should be assured that challenges of insecurity and the menace of herdsmen in Umunneochi and indeed the entire Abia is going to be put to rest soon.’’
On his part, the TC Chairman Barrister Eze Chikamnayo, who said he inherited a whole lot of insecurity and infrastructural challenges in the Council, noted that with the collaboration of the people and security operatives through the support of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, he has been able to tackle those challenges with visible results.
Chikamnayo disclosed that he has had several meetings with the Fulani community with the outcome quite revealing which he said has helped him tackle the menace of the criminal herders
He however said that a lot of work still needs to be done on the issue of one Kelechi who was alleged to own the cattle that destroys peoples farm lands.
While informing several invitation extended were rebuffed, the Council boss said he has initiated legal charges against him and reiterated that nobody, no matter how highly placed was above the law and that he would not fold his hands and allow a single individual destroy Umunneochi.
He seized the opportunity to list projects executed by him to include remodelling of the Council headquarters, grading of rural roads, remodelling and furnishing of the administrative block among others, stating that all those were done in less than one month that he took over office as TC Chairman. Chikamnayo thanked Governor Ikpeazu for the opportunity and support given to him to serve his people.
ABIA ONLINE gathered that Barr. Chikamnayo used the opportunity to take the Governor’s representative, journalists and other stakeholders round the Council headquarters to see the projects he has undertaken.
