OSUSU ROAD CONSTRUCTION WORK ADVANCES IN ABA, CONTRACTOR POISED TO COMPLETE PROJECT AT RECORD TIME
The Osusu road project in Aba has advanced in ernest with the contractor mobilized back to site and work running at a very high pace.
A visit to the site by ABIA ONLINE revealed that about 70 per cent of the 2.4 kilometer road have been completed with the rigid pavement and work is ongoing at a high pace to complete the remaining before the asphalting.
Speaking to ABIA ONLINE crew at the construction site, the Contractor handling Osusu road and Managing Director, Ekcleen Integrated Nig. Ltd, Mr. Onuoha Uzoma Chukwuemeka who disclosed that the road project is two-road put in one place in that it involes both the Rigging and the Fexible pavement confirmed that the rigging pavement would soon be completed with the flexible pavement following.
Mr Uzoma explained that his company started with the redesigning of the drainage system on the road in order “to accommodate the storm water coming from Ariaria because we have 34 adjoining roads from Ariaria, 20 adjoining roads here in Osusu all emptied down to Ama-Ogbonna, flowing down to Okigwe and down to Aba river, so imagine the importance of this road.”
According to him, the drainage system had since been completed while the concrete pavement have been ongoing for sometime now, adding that the quality of the work would not be overemphasized.
“What we are now doing is the pavement and as you can see for yourself from the site, we are doing the concrete pavement.
When you take a look at this concrete pavement job, there are procedures, I didn’t take 100 mm thickness, I am doing150 and 200 mm thickness because of the topography of the road, I considered it and that is why the pace of the work is a little bit slow,” he said.
Mr. Uzoma insisted that he would ensure that standard was not compromised in doing the work going by the policy thrust of the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.
He said, “Because the Governor told me to do a job once and for all, that his policy is not to repeat projects and I bought that idea very well, so I am doing based on the procedure he gave to me to do, I never wanted to compromise standard and you know my company is known for standard, that is my motto. When we start the flexible pavement, I’ll make sure I give it the proper thickness, and what we are doing will stand the test of time.
“I am doing a quality job, which will stand the test of time and I’m beating my chest to tell you that at the end of the day, I give you 30 years, this road will not be retouched,” Mr. Uzoma maintained.
On when the project would be completed and commissed, the Contractor explained that going by the pace of the work, “I’m looking at the 3rd week of next month to finish with the rigid pavement and the flexible pavement which is asphalting cannot take more than a week, even if it is raining, I can asphalt but we wouldn’t want to get to that time of the rain. So plus and minus, before the end of the first quarter of the year, I should be able to hand over the completed road to the Governor.”
