Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has launched the Youth Employment and Social Support Operations (YESSO) programme in Abia State, a programme aimed at providing financial support monthly to vulnerable and unemployed youths.
In his speech at International Conference Centre Umuahia, venue of the event, the Governor described the Education for Employment (E4E), his foremost initiation as an important pillar where YESSO and other Federal government programmes anchor on. He commended the Federal government for keying Abia State into the programme.
The Governor charged the beneficiaries of the YESSO programme to make Abia State proud by not toying with the monthly stipend they would be receiving.

Making a speech, the National Coordinator of the initiative, Hajara Sani said that the programme is aimed at providing support to unemployed youths in Nigeria, saying that the beneficiaries would be getting a monthly stipend of 7,500 naira. She said the stipend would assist them engage in small scale business, adding that with the flag-off, Abia is among the 15 States of the country benefiting from the programme.
Speaking, the representative of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Hope Nwosu, said YESSO is a life changing one that can impact greatly on the youths. She informed that Abia has 3,863 beneficiaries of the YESSO and urged them to be serious with the programme.
Earlier , the Abia State Coordinator of YESSO, Mr. Endi Ezengwa said that Abia is the first State in the South East to have keyed into the programme. He informed that the programme aims at managing youth unemployment and promoting businesses in the State.
