As the momentum towards the 2023 elections increases, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has urged the people of Abia state to choose his replacement based on competence, experience, pedigree and fear of God.

This is coming at the heels of the conflicting reports on who Gov Ikpeazu’s successor will be, come 2023. The governor bemoaned the senseless and ridiculous stories and activities that have flooded social media concerning his alleged involvement in the selection of a successor.

In a statement, Gov Ikpeazu warned that he will not succumb to antics or compromise his beliefs as far as the 2023 gubernatorial race is concerned.

His position stands clear, “on the issue of 2023, under no circumstance will I, nor this office, be dragged into meaningless and mundane ethnic politics.”

“God will remain God and cannot be influenced by libations nor the mere wishes of an ordinary mortal. At the end of the day, God will give us a worthy successor.”

The governor, therefore, stated that he cannot expend his energy replying to critics who seek to divert his attention with false and implausible reports on social media.

He urged Abians, particularly the political elite, to be calm and let the democratic process take its course.
