Abia government has inaugurated a Steering Committee for the proposed University of Industry, Science & Technology with Chief Chuku Wachuku as the Chairman.
Also inaugurated were Chairmen and members of Local Government Service Commission and Abia State University Teaching Hospital Board with Chief Okezie Ugboaja and Dr. Kingsley Enweremadu As Chairmen respectively.
Inaugurating the Committee, Commission and Board Chairmen and members, the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu charged them to focus on fighting all kinds of economic sabotage in their different establishments.
The Governor said the university will be a unique signatory university for the State as the strategy is to leverage on the industrial and technological expertise of the State to drive man power and capacity building. He said, as Abia is championing Small & Medium Scale Enterprise the university is expected to build manpower for it. Dr. Ikpeazu assured that the Ministry of Lands & Survey will do the needful in providing land for the site while Ministry of Education should within 14 days introduce enabling law to the House of Assembly to ensure smooth running of the University.
For the Board of Abia State University Teaching Hospital, the Governor challenged them to leverage on the health opportunities in the State, including the relationship being built with the Cuban Republic through its Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Carlos Trejo Sosa to fix ABSUTH. The Governor disclosed that Abia was ready to partner with Cuba in healthcare system as Cuba was known all over the world to be the best in medical care. He informed that the State is clearing the backlog of student nurses of ABSUTH who have not been certificated and enjoined the new Board to ensure such a scenario did repeat.
According to the Governor,government was aware of the bottlenecks in the Local government services, expecially, the ghosts worker syndrome and stated that government expects the Chairman and members of the Local Government Service Commission to employ their will power to drive away ghosts worker syndrome.
The Governor, who emphasized that the Chairmen and members so appointed
were men of integrity,promised to give them every enablement that would make them succeed and called on people to support the newly constituted leadership.
In a vote of thanks, the Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Chief Okezie Ugboaja thanked the Governor for finding them worthy to serve. He said he was aware of the enormous responsibilities and pledged to do their best to ensure they turn things around for good in the State.
