On the 15th of April, 2018 the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Enyinnaya Appolos posted a release informing Abians that the Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu was taking off on a 14 days leave and has handed over to his Deputy to pilot the affairs of the State for the duration of his vacation.
By this release, we did not expect to see the Governor in active participation of events until the end of his vacation. Those of us, who are his aides were relieved that, finally, he was going to have a deserved rest, but to the surprise of many, pictures of him in town-hall meetings and investment summits started emanating from the overseas where he was said to have presented his achievements, marketed the potentials of Abians and encouraged investors to come and invest in Abia.
Generally, vacations for political leaders are all spent in enjoyments and merriments, especially, when such vacations are observed overseas.
However, that of the workaholic Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu is different. He uses every opportunity to promote and project the ‘can-do-spirit’ of the Igbo man.
Particularly, this move of the Governor did not surprise me as he has, at many fora, highlighted the urgent need to fast track the development of our dear Abia State.
Having exposed the Aba shoemakers and garment producers to the real world of business through the promotion of the Made-in-Aba products to the level that they are sold beyond the African sub region.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has not relented in maintaining his position as ‘Chief Marketing Officer’ of the Aba brand of products. Far away overseas, where he is on a vacation, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu is still showcasing the various products of the Made in Abia. The exquisite foot wears and garments with world-class standard. Dr. Ikpeazu is gradually growing the Abia economy.
With this Dr. Ikpeazu’s unrelenting efforts in holding business meetings overseas, doubtless he would return with more investment ideas to the State.
The Aba business men and artisans would have a boost too.
It must be this avowed commitment of the Governor in changing the narrative in Abia business community that has made him to be so loved and cherished by Abia people. Little wonder, the Governor has been endorsed by so many groups, clans and Local Government Areas for a second term in office.
No wonder, opposition members in the State are afraid that they cannot beat him in 2019 as his handiworks and projects are already campaigning for him.
OVI, chiri gawa! O gi nwe aka a!
