Many flee as bandits attack Katsina villages
Over 250 inhabitants of Tsamben Tsauni and Tsamben Kolumbo villages of Mallamawa ward in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State have relocated to Jibia town following a bandits’ attack on their villages at the weekend.
The Internally Displaced Persons, mostly women and children, are currently taking refuge at the Jibia model market.
A visit to the temporary camp showed that camping activities were gradually taking up with the Red Cross and members of various Islamic groups rendering help.
It was gathered that a mob in the area had on Saturday had reportedly killed three persons alleged to be informants to bandits and kidnappers.
Among those killed were the Secretary of Miyyeti Allah in the local government area, Malam Sani and one Hamisu Danjuma. The identity of the third is yet to be ascertained.
Prior to that, suspected bandits had attacked the village Friday night, abducting one elderly man and injuring many.
“The villagers later traced footings to one of the suspected informants’ residence and apprehended him before killing him” a source said
When contacted, the spokesman of the state police command, Gambo Isah, promised to make enquiries and get back to our reporter, but he had not, as of the time of filing this report.
