STREET-TO-STREET REFUSE COLLECTION, ZERO POTHOLES INITIATIVE, DRAINAGE DESILTING: ABIA RAPIDLY WEARING NEW-LOOK(PHOTOS)
In line with the declaration of a state of emergency on Environmental sanitation in Aba and Umuahia as well as operation no potholes on the road Aba seems to be wearing a new look even as works are on going to close the potholes and refuse being collected.
A tour of Aba embarked by Abia Online crew revealed that refuse disposal is taking place smoothly while residents are working in compliance with ASEPA to bag their waste and dispose at ASEPA designated places.
The tour also met ASEPA waste management team on site for a routine street-to-street collection of waste from people’s houses as well as desilting of drainages and patching of potholes going on along Azikiwe road and other roads in Aba.
In an interview, Aba residents expressed happiness with Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for the declaration of a state of emergency on sanitation and thanked the commitment of the ASEPA in carrying out the job with diligence. They called on the government to maintain the tempo.
Also speaking with our crew, the manager, Aba South zone of ASEPA, Mr. Otah Ukariwo explained that his men sets out early in the morning everyday for street-to-street collection of waste and proper disposal of same.
On their way of operation, Mr. Ukariwo hinted that they use their refuse bell to summon residents to come out with their waste and put same in the ASEPA compactor provided by Governor Ikpeazu. He praised the compliance of Aba residents and urged for more support to keep Aba nay Abia State clean.
Places visited by Abia Online crew included Obohia road, Ibadan street, Ibere, Umuosu, No1 Port-Harcourt, Asa road as well many other roads in Aba.
