Eze Joseph Nwabekee of Ntigha in Isiala Ngwa North LGA was yesterday inaugurated as the new State Chairman of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers alongside other members of the Council including: Eze Kalu Kalu Ogbu, the Enachoken of Abiriba, Ohafia LGA as 1st Deputy Chairman, Eze Harry Ugwuala of Ugwunagbo as 2nd Deputy Chairman as well as Eze Godfrey Onwuka of Umuahia South who would serve as the 3rd Deputy Chairman.
The State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu in his speech at the event at Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, stated that his government would continue to liaise with the traditional rulers in the State to achieve peace and tranquility in their various domains in State and called for support and co-operate of other Traditional Rulers in the State for the new leaders of the Council.
He explained that the inauguration became necessary following the expiration of the former Council led by Eze Eberechi Dick noting that the delay in the inauguration was deliberate so to allow the former Chairman to serve out his tenure at the zonal level.
While appreciating Traditional Rulers in the State for their conduct, the Governor urged them to eschew rancour among them.
Governor Ikpeazu who used the occasion to announce that various Councils of Traditional Rulers would soon be constituted at the Local Government Area levels, acknowledged the contributions of the royal fathers in the State in the area of security and peaceful co-existence and congratulated the newly inaugurated leadership of the Council.
In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated Chairman of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers Eze Joseph Nwabekee said they would consolidate on the works of their predecessors.
He thanked the Governor for appointing them to serve in that capacity and assured that they would galvanize the Traditional Rulers in the State to achieve peace and unity in the communities.
