A Cook-Off Exercise, organized by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Agric Value Chain, Youth and Gender Training, Mr. Noble Adaelu has been held at Osisioma Ngwa Local Government headquarters. The programme, according to the Organizer, it was designed to demonstrate the importance of farming to food supply, gainful employment and industrial development.
He noted that the event was used to mark the end of a four-day training in Agric Value Chain for the Youths of the Local Government, adding that the time to see farming as an ordinary work for the elderly in rural areas was over.
Speaking at the event, Abia State Commissioner for Agriculture, Prof. Ikechi Mgbeoji described Farming as the only profession that would liberate us from abject poverty adding that farming was indispensible for man.
Prof. Mgbeoji who underscored the first need for us to eat our locally produced food, was emphatic when he declared, “There is no plant that bears more oil than the oil palm tree and there is no oil more nutritious than the palm oil.”
He however implored all and sundry to value what we have as that would translate into taking it more seriously, saying that the value chain of most of our products cannot be overemphasized.
In his address also, the Transition Committee Chairman, Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area, Dr. Ikechukwu Nwabeke thanked the Special Assistant to the Governor on Agric Value Chain, Youth and Gender Training for bringing such programme to his domain and called on the beneficiaries of the four-day training to take all they have learned very seriously.
Highlights of the event was a cook-off exercise in the form of cooking competition between Mr. Emeka Awudu and Mr. Noble, as well as campaign to promote farming with the inscription: ‘Let’s Farm for Sustainable Job Creation.’
