The Commissioner for Agriculture, Prof Ikechi Mgbeoji has said that the administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was determined to leave sustainable economic legacies in the agricultural sector.
In a Press Release by the Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Agriculture, Uma Ibem Oke stated that the Commissioner disclosed this while interacting with the traditional rulers and stake holders from Ohambele Community, Ukwa East LGA and Okonaku in Ohafia LGA during a working visit to the two communities where two major Government owned Oil palm Estate are domiciled.
He pointed out that the present administration was fully committed to the task of harnessing all the rich agricultural potentials that abound in the State to ensure the realization of sustainable economic growth and development of the state
Prof Mgbeoji disclosed that the essence of their visit was to inform them of the plan of Government to fully develop and rehabilitate all Government owned Oil palm Estate hitherto in the hands of the host communities for the benefit of all.
He also explained that Government, in collaboration with tested and trusted investors plan, to develop the oil palm value chain that will make Abia the leading Oil palm producing State in the Nigeria.
The Agricultural boss, further disclosed that the State, in collaboration with certified investors, would establish oil palm processing plant in Government owned Oil palm estates across the State, which when done will not only create wealth but also create employment opportunities and usher in massive infrastructural development in the various communities.
In their separate speeches, Eze Tony Wagbara of Ohambele, Eze Ikeabuchi Ekeke of Obuaka and Eze U k Okam of Okonaku thanked the Commissioner for his leadership style which they said would restore the glory of red oil palm dominance.
The traditional rulers assured the Commissioner of the readiness of their various communities to work hand in glove with Government in the realization of the set objectives in it’s oil revolutionary initiatives .
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, the very Reverend Ernest Onyeukwu, the State Director of Agriculture Prof. Alozie Anyim and other Directors from the Ministry accompanied the Commissioner on the visit.
