Abia State Government will soon pass a law to make the care and treatment of the elderly compulsory in Abia State.
The Adiministretor, Free Home HealthCare Service for the Elderly in Abia State, Chief (Dr.) Chuck Emenike Osondu disclosed this during a courtesy call on the palace of His Royal Majesty Eze Elder Samuel A Okorie of Ebem Aut. Community in Ohafia LGA and the former vice Chairman of Abia State traditional rulers Council.
Dr. Osondu said that the Governor of Abia State Dr Okezie Ikpeazu cares a lot for the elderly persons in the state and has provided Covid-19 palliative to be extended to them and teach them hygene so that they will not contact the Coronavirus during this lockdown.
The next visit according to him will be for the treatment and care for them after the commission for the elderly has been established and the offices will be created in all the 17 LGAs in Abia State.
Speaking also, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ohafia LGA Prince Fred Dike thanked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for being proactive to remember the elderly in the State and for putting measures in place to enable the State contain the spread Coronavirus.
Prince Dike called on the people of Ohafia and Abia State to know that the Covid-19 is real and as to observe the government rules to avoid contacting the virus.
In their separate speehes, the traditional Rulers of Ebem Autonomous Community, Eze Elder Samuel Okorie and Eze U O Ukiwo from Igbere expressed happiness that the Governor has established lots of health related measures for the good health of the people of Abia State and understands what the people are passing through especially, the elderly.
They called on Abia State Government to make caring for the elderly a law so that it will become a routine for the elderly to be taken care of.
Some of the recipients of the care include, Mrs Nnennaya Mba, Grace Ojo, both 90 years, Chief Kalu Mbila, Imo Mba both of whom are 100years, Mr Isaac Iro Ojo 120 yesrs, while Ozogu Ogba is about 140 years.
They thanked the Governor for bringing succor and help to them in this time of need and urged him to make it a regular routine since they have no one to care for them.
