Abia State TeleHealth Initiative has donated a set of 100 pieces of mobile phones with lines to the Abia State Ministry of Health for distribution to those in the frontline of COVID-19 contact tracing.
Speaking while making the donation, the State Coordinator, Abia Tele-Health Initiative, Dr. Omas Ubiame, said the phones would help bridge the communication gap among those working tireless in tracing the contracts of Abia Covid-19 index cases.
According to Dr. Ubiame, the a monthly recharge of #500 only gives everyone on the network access to free calls, 100 free SMS as well as 150MB for one month adding that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu had already paid for the first one month of subscription.
Receiving the items, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joe Osuji thanked the Abia TeleHealth Initiative for assisting the health workers through easy access to each other adding that the phones would go a long way to facilitating their work.
Also speaking, the State Epidemiologist, Lady Peace Nwogwugwu described communication as an integral part of contact tracing, noting that the items would reduce the cost of their communication.
Abia Online reports that Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Sir. Eze Egbulefu, Dr. Charles, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media and Publicity, Mr. Ubani Newman Ubani among others witnessed the presentation.
