DR. MARGARET TEENS FOUNDATION TARGETS 40 YOUNG GIRLS FOR EMPOWERMENT IN ABIA STATE.

Once again more young girls in Abia State would soon smile as a foundation known as Dr. Margaret Teens Foundation-DMTF is set to align with the Wife of the Abia State Governor’s empowerment spree. However, for the DR. MARGARET TEENS FOUNDATION, the concentration is only on young girls.

Led by the President, Miss Chigbu Onyinyechi Vivian, the Foundation focuses on empowering the girl child, especially teenagers who have acquired skills either in tailoring or hairdressing. The aim is to help the young girls on the streets to ensure they have something doing on their own, so that when they get married in future, they would be financially independent and be able to assist their families. When asked recently on why the Foundation focuses on young girls, the President, Miss Chigbu Onyinyechi Vivian disclosed that the girls were considered because they are the most vulnerable in the society. According to her, if girls have skills of their own, they can fetch money for themselves and their families.

The dream of establishing the Foundation which started since 2013 came true last year with a programme tagged “Anambra Girls’ Connect,” where girls in Anambra State were empowered in their various skills. In Abia State, particularly Umuahia, the first phase was done in April 26th this year, in the presence of the Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, where about ten girls were empowered in various skill areas.

The second phase of the empowerment has also been slated to hold on October 3rd, 2019. It is expected that about 40 young girls who have acquired skills would be empowered. The Foundation has asked girls to go out there and acquire skills, assuring that it would empower them. The essence of the empowerment is to discourage early marriage and unwanted pregnancy among young girls, support economical base of the girl child which would make her financially independent and more useful to herself, future family and society at large.

The previous beneficiaries of the empowerment of Dr. Margaret Teens Foundation have all affirmed that there has been positive change since they were empowered by the Foundation. Dr. Margaret Teens Foundation doles out sewing machines, hairdressing equipment and other necessary items and equipment needed to run certain skills. The Foundation gives these items to the beneficiaries free of charge.

This Foundation is really doing well and supporting the administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in empowering the people and particularly adds to the amazing works of the Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, who is committed to empowering women and assisting the less privileged individuals in skills acquisition.

This empowerment is something worth supporting to help these young girls. Hence, the Dr. Margaret Teens Foundation deserves commendation for keying into the vision of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in ensuring that young people in Abia acquire skills and be able to key into the Governor’s ‘Made-in-Aba’ drive thereby contributing their quota in the economic development of Abia State. Abians, particularly the young girls are urged to partake in the empowerment programme coming up on October 3rd, 2019. Let everyone one come and witness how this Foundation empowers young girls in Abia State.
