Abians have been urged to adopt strategic realignment as desiderata for socio-economic and political development. The senior special assistant to the governor of Abia state on rural reorientation and sensitization, Chief Chibike Onyendilefu iterated this during the government’s community based interaction programme at Ikwuano LGA of the State.
Chief Onyendilfu noted with displeasure, the political imbroglios the state has faced with seemingly never-ending litigations since after the 2015 election and reminded the people that it is only God that makes any leader. He urged every aggrieved person who still nurtures animosity to sheath their sword and queye behind the governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu to move Abia forward.
Put differently, the SSA to the governor used the occasion to divulged lots of the development strides of this present government in Abia State and therefore urged the people to take advantage of the local content production promotion of the government to have their wards venture into long term empowerment programmes with enduring benefits such as leather and garment making. He reminded the people that the government is building industrial clusters. He decried that Abia youths are not learning these trades/skills to be able to benefit from the programmes.
Chief Onyendilefu maintained that the governor is strategically rebuilding Aba to enable it generate funds to develop other parts of the state and expressed delight that with what the government has attained already in Aba, the state has shored up its independent revenue profile with over 100% input. Onyendilefu assured the people of the governor’s resolve to fix every part of the State.
In her speech, the LGA Chairman of Ikwuano, Mrs. Ngozi Orji, who was represented by her deputy, Hon. Tony Alaribe thanked the governor for initiating this kind of programme to intimate the people of the government’s programmes and noted that it will go a long way in fence mending in the State.
She used the occasion to call on government to help the people of Ikwuano build Amawom-Nkalunta road which is in a bad shape. She also maintained that the people of the area has comparative advantage in Cocoa, Cassava, rice production and called on the government to equip them with manpower and funds to enable them generate greater yields in the area.
Chief Sam Onuigbo representing Ikwuano-Umuahia federal constituency also extolled the government’s efforts in repositioning Abia as the number one state not by a mere alphabetical arrangement but with projections of the state. He expressed satisfaction with the quality of projects and contractors handling them in the state.
The lawmaker who was represented by Hon. Ibelachi C Ibelachi assured the governor of the support of the Abia National Assembly members to attracting federal projects in the State as evident in the reconstruction of the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene road, a federal project.
He used the occasion to ask the people of the area for their continued support to the governor.
In a separate reaction, Mr. Ojike Timothy, pleaded with the government to fix Ariam-Usaka ring road which connects about 30 communities. He decried that the road has become the campaigning tool of politicians during every electioneering period.
Other contributors asked for human capital development through empowering the youths and women, incorporating the local hunters into the state’s local security network, electrification projects, etc.
Responding, Mr. Enyinnaya Agwu, Senior Special assistant to the governor, assured the people that work will commence on one of the roads mentioned in the area very soon. He also advised the people to approach the office of community social development project and apply for electrification.
