Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has declared that anyone seen trading in any form under or around the Osisioma Flyover at any time of day would be arrested and their wares permanently confiscated.
This decision comes after the government’s repeated attempts to maintain the area from any type of street trade.
A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Onyebuchi Ememanka, noted with dismay the obstinate attitude of street vendors who have turned the area beneath and surrounding the Osisioma Flyover into a market.
“The Osisioma Flyover is not only this administration’s signature infrastructure project; it is also a significant entry into Aba, and the government will not allow rebellious street vendors to deface the area surrounding the structure.”
Consequently, the statement warned that starting Monday, April 11th, 2022, no type of trade will be tolerated around the area.
To this effect, Gov Ikpeazu has directed that the Commissioners in charge of the Ministries of Trade and Investment, Transportation, and Works form a Joint Task Force forthwith and liaise with the Osisioma Ngwa LGA and relevant security agencies to carry out this mandate.
