The Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu in company of the Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Alhaji Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) has used the occasion of the 26th annual Power Sector Stakeholders Meeting hosted in Umuahia to commission a Mobile Transformer at Ohiya Transmission Substation.

Commissioning the project, Dr Ikpeazu said electric power is key to economic development and assured that the host communities would protect the project.
He appreciated the Rural Electrification Agency for providing power in Ariaria market, expressing hope that the agency would be engaged in powering the Abia street lights.
Dr. Ikpeazu stressed the need for the federal government to work together with both the power generating and distributing companies, adding that electric power is key to economic growth.
He also said that he was pleased with the decision to choose Abia State as the host State for the annual meeting of stakeholders in power sector.
Speaking earlier, Alhaji Babatunde Fashola disclosed that he and his team were in the State to commission both Ohiya and Aba substations that were upgraded with more MVA and to hold the 26th annual Power Sector stakeholders Meeting in Abia State.
He stressed that the stakeholders would deliberate issues around generation and distribution of of power in Nigeria. He noted that, by adding more MVA to the substations, they would now increase power supply and reach more, explaining that the additional voltage was necessitated by the increase in population and power usage.
The Minister commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for his support to the Rural Electrification Agency which has powered sections of Ariaria market Aba.
Alhaji Fashola had led a delegation to pay courtesy visit to the Governor in Government House, Umuahia.
