GOVERNOR IKPEAZU’S ‘THANK YOU TOUR’: A MASTERSTROKE.

The revered and renowned former America’s president, Abraham Lincoln, succinctly and aptly defined democracy as a government of the people, by the people and for the people. This widely acclaimed definition underscores the inalienable rights and preserve of the lead to participate and as such have a preview of happenings in the government corridor. Thus, for people to have an undiluted savour of a democratic arrangement such as Nigeria’s and even contribute meaningfully to government programs and policies is for the people to be kept abreast, an unmitigated channel of information should be developed and enhanced, which invariably will coalesce into trust of the masses in the government of the day. It is also germane to state that the opposite nurtures mistrusts, angst and suspicions amongst the people.
In accordance with the global democratic norms and ethos, which the Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, is an ardent believer, he has created avenues and platforms to interface with Abians. It became expedient for such ‘thank you tour’ considering the immeasurable support the Governor received from generality of Abians as the legal distractions lasted.
On a cheering note, the storm is over – it is on a reciprocal note Governor Ikpeazu embarked on this tour, which will deepen the cordial interaction between Abians and the Governor Ikpeazu’s administration
The ongoing local government tours is one of such opportunities to all classes of Abians to air their views about the different programs and policies of the Governor Ikpeazu led administration. The occasion will be instructive, as the people’s Leader will inform the populace about other beneficial government programs and projects in the offing. Touring local government councils, which is the closest to the people will therefore lay bare some trivial needs of the people living in the countryside for untoward actions, coupled with the ample opportunity for the Governor to empower many youths and handicapped person – what a superb innovative leadership approach.
The main masterstroke pulled by Governor Ikpeazu here is the cutting down of the fortunes that would have been expended in entertaining solidarity visits by different groups, thus the Governor resorted to go to the people rather than wait for the people to come to him which is more encompassing and a paradigm shift in the lexicon of administration in Abia State.
It is also a viable room to entertain questions, or even constructive criticisms which is always welcomed in a democratic society such as ours.
There is an untold joy and fulfillment for the electorates to behold their Servant-Leader in the person of our humane and urbane Governor Okezie Ikpeazu who triumphed at the Supreme Courts after nearly two years of brazen distraction from political opponents, thus it is not surprising that Abians have been throwing their weight behind the masses friendly government. The unquenchable support Governor Ikpeazu enjoys stems from his style of administration which places the people at the centrepiece of his programmes and policies, realizing that power belongs to the people.
