Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, Governor of Abia State, has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is currently deliberating and debating on the party’s Governorship tickets, assuring that PDP would only make a decision that would benefit the people of Abia state.
The Governor made this statement at his hometown Umuobiakwa, Obingwa LGA, welcoming Professor Gregory Ibe, a State PDP governorship candidate.
Governor Ikpeazu reiterated his belief that every part and zone of Abia State can run the State’s affairs while also dismissing claims made by some fifth-columnists that Abia North aspirants were disqualified from running in the election.
Even though there are many excellent candidates and only one person can be Governor at any given time, he expressed his appreciation for the quality and expertise of those interested in the race.
He urged the party’s leaders to be patient while they worked to resolve their challenges. The Governor stated that the party is currently deepening consultations on the best course of action to ensure victory while ensuring that no region in the state feels excluded.
The Governor admonished all candidates to have the courage to support whomever the party eventually selects as its nominee and help the party win future general elections.
As a prominent son of Abia and personal friend, he warmly welcomed Professor Ibe, the Proprietor of Gregory University, Uturu. When the time to choose comes, he told him that he hoped he would muster the courage and strength to run the race and accept whatever the outcome would be.
The Governor asserts that “God values power so high that he will not give it to anyone. Despite my ideas and opinions on the subject, I am confident that God’s will, will prevail and that it will be in our State’s best interests.”
Governor Ikpeazu and his visitor, Professor Ibe, had previously met privately.
