Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has said that he feels sad seeing people with disabilities crawling, and vowed to do everything within his reach to provide them with mobility device that could aid them improve on their economy.
Governor Ikpeazu was speaking at an event for the distribution of mobility transport for the physically challenged and free medical care for the rural dwellers under the ABIA STATE FREE MEDICAL MISSION 2020, held at Okaiuga Nkwoegwu Health Centre, Umuahia North LGA.
He noted there was no better way to thank the people of Abia State after his victory at Supreme Court which brought an end to all litigation against him, maintaining that he now has more concentration to do the work for which he was elected.
Describing the physically challenged Persons as Persons with special abilities, Ikpeazu charged them not to belittle themselves as every body is created equal before God.
The State Chief Executive disclosed that his administration was working on getting motorized machines for the physically challenged persons who would want to drive such devices.
Also speaking, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ikwuano LGA, Barr. Stanley Ojigbo who spoke on behalf of the Transition Committee Chairmen in the Abia Central Zone, congratulated the Governor Ikpeazu on his Supreme Court victory and commended Governor Ikpeazu for distributing the mobility carts to the physically challenged individuals in the zone.
He assured the Governor of the continuous support of the people in the six Local Government Areas in Abia Central Senatorial zone.
In an address, the Personal Physician to the Governor and Covener of Abia State Free Medical Mission 2020, Dr. Mike Enyinnaya informed that the Free Medical Mission was done in partnership with Med-Share, an American based donor Agency in collaboration with Abia State Indigines in the Diaspora noting that the programme was organised to distribute mobility carts and extend free medical care to people in the zone.
He thanked Governor Ikpeazu for initiating the programme which he said has been on since 2015 and the feed back from the people has been very appreciable. He equally thanked Dr. Stella Kamula for assisting the State in getting the equipment.
Dr. Enyinnaya disclosed that about 40 tricycles were distributed in Abia South Zone while more than 400 hundred individuals were captured in the free Medical care in the same zone.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Urban and Rural Health Services and Facilitator of the Free Medical Mission, Dr. Stella Kamula described the Governor as the real facilitator and commended him for his continued efforts in getting medical equipment for the people of the State assuring that they would continue to assist the State.
Princes Ngozi Nwaguru State, the woman leader of physically challenged in the State thanked him for initiating and commencing the mission as well as for having the physically challenged in heart.
The Abia State Free Medical Mission and distribution of mobility carts to physically challenged indigenes in the State is part of the Governor’s way of showing care to the less privileged individuals in the State.
