Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has flagged off the reconstruction of Omuma Road, while he also inspected the ongoing project at Milverton road, Aba where work is nearing completion.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Governor noted that Omuma road is strategic to the economy of Aba, assuring that quality work would be done on the road, using cement pavement technology to make it durable.
He challenged the traders at the Omuma market to take responsibility of protecting the road, observing that careless throwing of debris into the drainages and inability of managing waste generated in the markets contribute to road failures. He disclosed that ASEPA would establish a committee on sanitation to monitor the Omuma market.
In the meantime, Governor Ikpeazu has announced that the Osisioma flyover would be ready for commissioning in the next three to four months even as he disclosed that his government has fully paid the contractor handling the project.
The Governor made the announcement while speaking to newsmen during the inspection of Milverton road, Aba.
He said that his worry was to get the Arab contractors handling the Aba section of the Enugu/Portharcourt expressway back to site to complete the project.
Governor Ikpeazu used the opportunity to further reiterate his government’s commitment towards realizing the 27 billion naira World Bank assisted storm water management project of Ndiegoro, Uratta, Obohia, Ngwa Road and its environs, disclosing that his government has paid the needed counterpart fund for the project. He assured that quality work would be done in those areas to give Aba the much needed face-lift.
ABIA ONLINE gathered that the contract for Omuma road was awarded to Eckleen Integrated Services, the same construction company that handled the Osusu Road.
