The National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons NAPTIP has handed over two teenage girls of Abia origin who were victims of child trafficking and recused from different parts of the country, to the wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu
Speaking while handing over the girls, Representative of the Zonal Commander and Director General of NAPTIP, Mrs Ifeoma Nwata commended, Mrs. Ikpeazu for her role and commitment in ensuring the effective rehabilitation of two girls.
Mrs Nwata narrated the ugly experience which the victims passed through in the hands of their traffickers. She informed the public that some parents and guardians are major players in this business and warned that the long arm of the law would never spare any parents/guardian found indulging in trafficking of girls and children.
Receiving the victims, the wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, who was represented by the Hon. Commissioner for women affairs, Chief Mrs. Ukachi C. Amala, applauded and appreciated the unrelenting efforts of the NAPTIP Enugu State in ensuring that this ugly trend was nipped in the bud.
She however, appealed to relevant Agencies to double their efforts in the fight against human trafficking as the rate at which the trend was on the increase requires stringent measures.
Abia First Lady, while expressing happiness that such promising young girls are back to the state and to their families, applauded the efforts of all those who worked round the clock to ensure that they regained their freedom from these monsters in human form.
She maintained that the administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of Abians.
The victims, Miss. Joy Ikechukwu 14years old from Ohafia L.G.A and Miss Chinaza Iheme 15years old who hails from Ugwunagbo L.G.A have since been reunited with their families.
