The National Secretary of the Forum of Focal Persons, Mr. Chinenye Nwaogu has urged the National Assembly to emphasize on laws that will improve the livelihood of Nigerians and reduce poverty in the country.
Nwaogu stated this in a meeting with the Senate Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Investment.
The National Secretary maintained that the country is facing grave challenges occasioned by hardship facing majority of the citizens, hence the need for governments at all level to work towards the improvement of livelihood of the poor and vulnerable.
He suggested that there is an urgent need to work out strategies to reduce unemployment in the country.
Mr. Nwaogu who used the opportunity to highlight the efforts of Governor Ikpeazu to improve the livelihood of Abians, insisted that Abia is one of the strongholds of the social Investment Programme, because of the Governor’s passion for the welfare of the poor and vulnerable.
The Senate Committee Chairman on Poverty Alleviation and Social Investment Programme Senator Lawal Yahaya Gumau who noted that the National Assembly has a constitutional duty to oversight all budgeted programmes, assured that they will work with all key stakeholders to ensure improvement in the livelihood of Nigerians.
He maintained that as representatives of the people they will support the President’s policies to assist the poor and vulnerable and urged the Focal Persons to continue their good works to ensure the programmes achieve the set objectives.
