An erudite scholar and a professor of law, Prof. Sampson Erugo(SAN) has applauded the Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu (Ph.D) for his giant strides in infrastructural development in Abia considering the ignomity of challenges in the state and the entire country.
The Director of Law and Justice, Abia State University Uturu (ABSU) who disclosed this to newsmen recently in Umuahia, the Abia state capital, noted that in spite of the global financial challenges with it’s attendant paucity of funds, the Abia Governor remained resolute in constructing new roads, rehabilitating dilabidated ones among others, adding that Aba would put on a new look when these roads are completed.
The former Dean, faculty of law, ABSU, also revealed that the building of new modern schools, renovation of primary/secondary schools in the state would improve teaching and learning, commending the governor for empowering youths within the frugal five years of his administration.
He described Gov. Ikpeazu as the first to govern the modern day Abia state with University classroom experience, applauding him for relocating ABSU law school to Umuahia after several years of attempt, using his personal funds to facilitate it.
Prof. Erugo, however, called on Gov. Ikpeazu to periodically review the appointments and performance of his appointees, and replace the under-performing ones with vibrant ones.
In his words: “When there is failure in government, people without hesitation look at the governor only. Let other heads of government parastatals and agencies emulate the ABSU Vice Chancellor, Prof. E. Uche Ikonne, as Gov. Ikpeazu would always mention him as a good example, to drive their agencies to profits”.
He called on parents, political office holders among others to help Gov. Ikpeazu serve Abians better, adding that the governor is under pressure to deliver dividends of democracy with several competing demands in the state.
Erugo who also decried the moral decadence among youths further urged parents/guardian to live exemplary lives worthy of emulation by their children.
He cautioned youths to shun get-rich-quick syndrome, insisting that lost of values, ethics and proper orientation remained a bane to our contemporary society, advising that everyone should think of the society first above material things.
