The Abia State Marketing and Quality Management Agency has directed vendors in Abia State to immediately cease the deduction of N50 as POS usage charge.
In a release by the Director-General, Barr. Sam Hart, the Agency observed that vendors in Abia State still charge consumers the sum of N50 for use of POS in making purchases at numerous business premises in the State.
According to the release, “Enquiries from relevant quarters have shown that the directive for such charges have since been withdrawn and the charges ordered to be stopped.
Vendors in Abia State still asking customers to pay N50 for POS purchases are clearly on an illegal and criminal enterprise and are advised to cease and desist forthwith.”
Barr Hart, who said that one of the mandates of the Abia State Marketing and Quality Management Agency was the protection of consumers in Abia State against undue exploitation by vendor, further informed that his Agency was working in agreement with the Abia State Office of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, directing vendors in Abia State to immediately cease the deduction of N50 as POS usage charge.
“The Agency and the Abia State Office of the FCCPC will be conducting a joint compliance monitoring operation and any vendor found to still be charging this fee will be held commensurately liable,” the release finally warned.
