SALARY ARREARS OWED WORKERS IN THE STATE WAS NOT CAUSED BY THE PRESENT ADMINISTRATION – NLC Chairman, Comrade Uchenna Obigwe

Abia State Government has received the total sum of 5.7 billion naira
as its share of the second tranche of Paris Club refund from the Federal government.
Briefing news men in government House, after a crucial meeting with
the Governor and leadership of the Nigerian Labour Conference in the
State, Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Obinna Oriaku regretted that the
development would affect negatively, the Governor’s earlier promise of clearing all arears of salaries and pensions in the State as the State
was expecting between 12 to 14 billion naira from its Paris club. The
Commissioner however reiterated the commitment of the present administration to pay salaries of its workers with or without bailout funds.
Consequently, the government would pay more attention to the parastalals owed more as MDAs are owed only one month.
Also speaking, the NLC Chairman, Comrade Uchenna Obigwe stressed that the situation is worrisome but stated the arears owed workers in the
State was not caused by the present administration.
