The Governor of Abia State Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has revealed his administration’s plan to establish at least one health tertiary institution in each of the three Senatorial Zones in Abia State.
The Governor who was ably represented by the Deputy Governor Rt. Hon Ude Oko Chukwu, stated this, when he flagged off a medical mission at the Umuahia North LGA headquarters in Abia State.
He thanked the Abia State National Association of North America for collaborating with the Government of Abia State to ensuring that the Government policy and emphasis on health are sustained. He further said that the Government of Abia State is open to collaboration and partnership with both national and international bodies for the benefit of Abians.
Earlier, the National President of the Association Dr Christian Ike, thanked the Governor for his commitment to health and welfare of Abians.
“We thank the Governor for creating the enabling environment for us to come for this medical mission and for collaborating with us” Ike stated.
He explained that the mission is an opportunity for over 10,000 Abians to receive free medical treatment this Christmas and also for 300 Abians to receive free general and Eye surgeries.
He went further to thank the Governor for the recent shipment of a container load of quality Medical Supplies from the United States to Abia State, which will be distributed to hospitals.
He stated that the mission team is made up of Renowned Physicians, Surgeon and other medical experts. The mission which is slated to last for a week, will cover 18 locations in the three Senatorial Zones, treating people and performing surgeries.
Dr John Ahukanna, the Abia State Commisioner for health, thanked the Governor for supporting the project. He called on Abians to take advantage of the opportunity.
