The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has directed that all political and public office holders in the state who intend to engage in the political process, either as a candidate for elective office or as a delegate should resign their positions on or before Monday, April 11, 2022.
A release signed by the Secretary to Abia State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem said it is in accordance with section 84(12) of the amended Electoral Act 2022, which was signed into law by His Excellency, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari, GCFR, and the subsequent release by the Independent Electoral Commission of the necessary guidelines to ensure a hitch-free election in Nigeria (INEC).
The release further stated, “You will please comply strictly to this Government directive”.
