COMMISSIONERS AND THEIR ROLE IN INTERPRETING THE VISION OF GOVERNOR IKPEAZU…
Whereas good leaders set the pace through their vision in a way that fires up the populace and sets them off in the right direction, there is no better way of ensuring that subordinates interpret such leadership policies into results than focusing on the characteristics, traits, and actions that are key to successful leadership.
This comes mind as Commissioners in Abia State were recently sworn in, with the charge to help drive the administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu on faster lane of development. The Governor directed them to work in synergy to ensure that the government does not sleep on wheels.
This call is not only apt but a wake up call for appointees who are obviously teemed with men capable of matching the call with sterling performance and positive result thereby instilling desired impacts in the State. The Governor’s charge included tasking them to swing into action from day one of their swearing in as that would determine their commitment and success in the portfolios assigned to them.
When a Commissioner sees his appointment as a call to duty, he will not only key into the vision but also work to interpret the vision into positive results. Like the Governor rightly pointed, “excuses are not acceptable in the train of progress that is aimed at delivering the needed dividends of democracy to the generality of Abia people”.
Commissioners are partners of the State Governor when it concerns working with the relevant agencies of government and civil servants to carry out programmes and policies of government. They are representatives of the Governor in their various ministries closer enough to supervise departments of government in making sure that no stone is left unturned in the policy thrust of government.
There is no doubt that the Governor, being meticulous in his dealings, has selected the individuals he believes have some strategic roles to play in his administration. Such roles are expected to impact the five pillars of development of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu’s administration and step by step hasten the development of the State to the wishes and aspirations of the Governor.
Finally, it is our firm believe that the Commissioners as appointed by Governor Ikpeazu will ensure speedy response to some of the yearnings of Abians. They should not rest on their oars thinking that since it is the Governor’s second term, that it is now time to rest, eat and sleep. To whom much is given, as the saying goes, much is expected; having that at the back of their minds will propel them into developing individual policies that will much more represent what Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is out to achieve in his quest to leave a big shoe that will be so big for anyone coming behind fill.
To the newly inaugurated Commissioners; Good luck!.
God bless Abia State.
