DEVELOPMENT OF SMEs IN ABIA STATE; Dr Ikpeazu meets with the Ag. President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

The Governor of Abia State Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, today, led a high powered delegation to meet with the Federal Government led by the Acting President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo SAN.
The meeting which was held at the Vice President’s office Aso rock villa, was a follow up meeting for the economic development of the State especially the MSME sector.
The VP commended the Governor for his “Smart business approach to governance”.
He noted that Aba is very strategic and important to the country in terms of manufacturing and production. The Acting President, who has shown great interest in the development of local and indigenous industries said that Nigeria has no business with China if all hands are on deck to develop Aba as a major industrial Base.
He commended the Governor for his vigorous campaign for made in Aba which has raised the tempo. He further maintained that made in Aba products have improved greatly.
Prof Osibanjo said that the FG will focus on Aba and what is happening there. He directed all the heads of federal government MDAs to work with the Abia State Government and the business community to enhance the ease of doing business.
He specifically singled out NAFDAC and SON to ensure that Aba business men and women faces no difficulty registering their products. He insisted that NAFDAC Acting DG commits to two months time frame for all their approvals. Each of the MDAs briefed the meeting on their post Aba MSME Clinic activities.
The Governor thanked the Federal Government for partnering with the state to develop the economy of Abia State especially Aba. He presented an MSME development plan for Aba industrial zone. Reviewing the Governor’s presentation, the Vice President expressed appreciation for the Governor’s knowledge of the issues at stake and informed him that the Federal Government will support him because they feel his desire and commitment to develop Abia State.
Contributing the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment informed the Governor that already Federal Government is thinking in line with him and that the development of Aba industrial zone is part of the 2017 budget. He said the project will soon come on stream.
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Dr. Okey Enelama, the Minster of State Hajia Aisha Abubakar, the Acting MD of Bank of Industry, Ag DG of NAFDAC, DG SON, Registrar General CAC, DG NEPC were present at the meeting.
On the part of Abia State Government, The Governor of Abia State was also accompanied to the meeting by Elder Emma Adaelu, A Major business leader, Sir Emma Nwakpadolu, President Aba chamber of Commerce, Mazi O C Williams President LEPMASS, Chief Onyebuchi E Nwaigwe, President ATFAD, Chief Henry Ikoh, Commissioner for Industry, Science and Technology, Mrs Kate Nwosu, Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Chinenye Nwaogu, SSA on Job Creation and Youth Development and Mr Chigoziri Chigbu, PA to the Governor.
