Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has confirmed readiness to commission five major infrastructural projects in Abia state on May 29, 2022.
The governor disclosed this when he welcomed a delegation of the Abia State Traditional Rulers Council leadership and Chairmen of the 17 local government areas, at his country home in Umuobiakwa, Obingwa LGA.
He informed the Royal Fathers that the Osisioma Flyover project will also be commissioned alongside five other infrastructural projects in the state and gave his assurance that they will be present for the celebrations.
Gov Ikpeazu noted that the actualization and commissioning of such projects align with his promise to continue serving the interests of Abians in the state and beyond throughout the remaining of his tenure in office.
“The fact that Abia State is ranked third in the country for attracting foreign direct investments by the National Bureau of Statistics is obvious evidence that peace and socio-political stability are evident enablers of development.”
According to the Abia Governor, one of the most important legacies he will leave as Governor is the enduring peace and socio-political stability the State has enjoyed under his administration.
He declared emphatically that no development can take place in any environment where there is insecurity and ongoing political strife and as such, the atmosphere of peace and security in the State must be fiercely preserved.
He challenged the royal fathers to continue preaching the virtues of peace in their domains using the Abia Charter of Equity of 1981 as a reference to advise youths in their communities to avoid being used as instruments of confusion.
While appreciating Gov Ikpeazu for the warm reception, the Chairman of the State Traditional Rulers Council HRM Eze Joseph Nwabeke, let him know that the visit was to show solidarity and congratulate him for the multiple initiatives he has done and is doing across the State.
He used the opportunity to solicit the governor’s intervention in a few issues that affect their offices so that they can perform at their best.
On a similar note, the Ezes requested reinstatement of their quarterly meetings, which are conducted in several Senatorial districts around the state.
Gov Ikpeazu emphasised that Royal Fathers have been catalysts for peace and prosperity in the state and as such deserve all of his administration’s attention and so promised to look into the issues they presented.
The meeting included the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rt. Hon Prince Christopher Enweremadu.
