Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has promised to mobilze a contractor for the immediate reconstruction of the Nmuri bridge in the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.
The Governor was responding to a passionate appeal made to him by the Prelate and Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Most Rev Dr Nzie Nsi Eke, to help fix the bridge at the funeral ceremony of late Chief Emmanuel Ndukwe Uko Nkole, father of the member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Uko Nkole.
He directed the Federal Lawmaker to immediately take engineers to the bridge to determine the cost and forward same to him for kick off work on Monday.
Speaking earlier at the funeral service, Ikpeazu described the late Chief Emmanuel Nkole as a great Father, Community Leader and Patriarch who lived a worthy and exemplary life on earth.
While recalling that the deceased had made his marks and gone to be with his maker, he charged the bereaved family to sustain the virtues of honesty, steadfastness and selfless service to humanity and prayed God to grant the family grace and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
In his remarks, the Speaker House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila represented by the Member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Hon. (Mrs) Nkeiruka Onyejeocha described death as a necessary end for every mortal and expressed joy that the late Uko Nkole lived a fulfilled life having attained the age of 79 with footprints on the sands of time.
In their condolences, the member representing Isialangwa North and South Federal Constituency, Hon Darlington Nwokocha and the National Organising Secretary of the PDP, Col. Austin Akobundu who described the deceased as a great man, prayed God to grant the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the loss.
Earlier in a sermon, entitled “Our Citizenship is in Heaven” the Moderator and Prelate of the General Assembly, Presbyterian Church of Nigeria Most Rev. Nzie Nsi Eke who said that God determines His own time table, assured the bereaved family that those look upon the Lord will not be disappointed.
While reminding the living that there is a time to die, the Prelate urged them to draw closer to God as He cares much about His people.
In their separate tributes, the first son of the deceased, Frank Awa Ndukwe Nkole and the second son and member representing Arochukwu/ Ohafia Federal Constituency, Hon. Uko Nkole said their late Father was a Community Leader, a disciplinarian and philantropist who touched many lives and regretted that his demise has created a vacuum that would be difficult to fill.
The late Chief Emmanuel Ndukwe Uko Nkole who died at the age of 79 is survived by four children, grandchildren and many other relations.
ABIA ONLINE reports that the interdenominational service which held at the Central School Field, Ozu Abam, Arochukwu LGA, was attended by many dignitaries from different works of life.
