Martin Luther King(Jnr) once said “if a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michaelangelo painted or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well”.
He also cautioned in another speech when he said; “Never, never be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person…is at stake. Societies punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way”. These may not be unconnected with the drive at which the governor of Abia State had employed to change the narrative of the state for good. His zeal for good works has resonated even in the phase of economic distortions; his exploits in fixing the broken walls of Abia is resulting to the overall revitalization of the business life of the State and gave hope to the common man.
Comparing notes and matchmaking State projections with actions/implementations of plans already yielded in the developmental strides as recorded in the infrastructural base, promotion of local content products of Abia State cum Aba, all apparatuses put in place to ease off means of doing business in Abia State, equipping the security outfits with the state-of-the-arts gadget. Making Abia very viable for businesses does not only speaks volume of the leadership ingenuity of the governor but his drive to revive Abia as swift as possible.
Little wonder in the recent, Abia has become the business destination of many. The State has recently hosted many well attended visits geared towards the development of the State. One of such visits was that of the minister of works, power and housing which Abians expect to yield more fruits soon. The visit is hopefully going to put an end to the bureaucratic bottleneck which has bedeviled the kickstarting of the Geometric Power plant in Abia; which promises over twenty hours of uninterrupted power supply to the business hub of Nigeria, Aba and its environs.
Abia also hoped that the august visit would at the instance solve the problems of the age long federal roads in the State, abandoned to wear and tear over the decades. Some of these roads with much economic relevance in Abia include; Aba/Iko-Ekpene road, Aba/Portharcourt road, Umuahia/Ikot-Ekpene road, Arochukwu/Ohafia road among many others in the State.
While some of these roads when fixed would enable seamless movement of goods and services within the neighboring States with proximity to Aba. Porthacourt road constitutes the greatest number of macroeconomies, small and medium scale enterprises, artisans in Aba. When fixed, many of those businesses located in that axis which had remained moribund will come back to life. They will not only contribute to the IGR profile of Abia, but also to the national coffers.
It is however, somewhat displeasing that even with the visit of the honourable minister of works, power and housing, some of these economically important roads were not captured in the 2017 capital budget of the federal government.
This is really worrisome to Abia State but since the Abia State Government is already concluding plans to engage Setraco Construction LTD that is already fixing Faulk Road to also move to Port Harcourt Road Aba as soon as possible to fix that road, joy is on the way.
Abians are therefore urged to join hands with this performing governor to lift the horns of the State higher.
