One of the pillars being oil & gas, Governor Ikpeazu’s administration has been trying its best to meet up with the expectations of Abians in that regard. The most recent of all now is the current plan by the Abia State Government to collaborate with the private sector to establish a modular refinery which is part of strategies to improve the availability of refined products in Abia State.
As we speak, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has approved that a Public Private Partnership be entered into between the State Government and a privately owned company to establish the refinery.
Of course, the State would take advantage of the large deposits of crude oil in the Ukwa area of the State ensure the modular refinery is built.
In recent interaction with journalists in the State, the Commissioner for Petroleum, Barr. Chizuru Kanu disclosed that negotiations have gone very far with the private sector organization and the contract papers are being tidied up by the Ministry of Justice.
By implication, the Modular Refinery is real and would commence after the necessary Memorandum of understanding is signed.
