Abia State Governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has officially Commissioned the reconstructed Eziukwu Road, Aba and its adjoining outlets, Milverton Avenue and Ojike Lane and Chisco Link, also reconstructed by his administration.
Speaking before cutting the tape to open the roads for public use, Governor Ikpeazu said the quality of work done on the roads would give it a life span of about thirty years.
The Governor harped on the need for residents and business owners within the areas to protect the roads as well as for proper waste management in the area.
He maintained that his administration undertook the reconstruction of the roads owing to their economic importance and advised those doing cement business at Ojike Lane to relocate to Uratta or other markets.
The State Chief Executive, who directed ASEPA to set up a Waste Management Task Force to ensure the drainages are kept clean and free of debris further disclosed that before the end of February, youths from the various LGA would be deployed to carry out direct labour works of road maintenance and covering of potholes in certain areas where road constructions are yet to be done.
Speaking, the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, who said he is proud of his boss, the Governor, for making good his promise of fixing Aba, urged the people of the State to pay their taxes so as to support other developmental programmes of Government.
In his address earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Elder Bob Ogu while noting that the roads are located at Central Business District, assured that they will enhance the economy of Aba.
Elder Ogu maintained that what the Governor has in store for the Aba community was great and urged all to sustain their support for him.
Commissioning the road, the Prelate and Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, His Eminence, Nzie Nsi Eke expressed delight to be part of the commissioning events and appreciated Governor Ikpeazu for doing a great job for the people. He urged the Governor not to relent in building more roads praying God to bless the Governor and the road users.
Also speaking, the PDP State Chairman, Rt. Hon. Asiforo Okere, Commissioner for Agriculture, Prof. Ikechi Mgboji and and his Industry counterpart Chief Mrs. Uwaoma Olenwengwa appreciated the good works of the Governor noting that the best time to live and do business in Aba was now as the Governor is currently fixing the infrastructural deficit of the city.
In their speeches, the President General, Aba Landlords Association and former Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Acho Nwakanma, the President of Aba Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ACCIMA), Sir Lawrence Obetta, Access Bank Manager in the axis, Mr. Jude Eze Ezugwu, representative of business men, Prince Ahamefula Ikonne, Chairman, luxurious Bus Owners, Chief Jerry Ani, RTEAN Chairman Azubuike Azuzu and Mrs. Antonia Ugoji, who were full of praises for the Governor, described the kind of the constructions the Governor was doing as unique.
They said that this would be the first time Eziukwu Road and its adjoining roads are passable after about twenty years and assured of their commitment to protect the roads built for them.
